Global Abortion

Legality and Safety

The Guttmacher Institute conducts research to determine the incidence of abortion at the national, regional and global levels. The Institute has developed a widely published methodology to measure the incidence of the practice in countries where abortion is restricted by law and where the majority of abortions are clandestine and likely unsafe.

Hear From An Expert

"To build sexual and reproductive health policies that are truly inclusive and equitable, we need to understand what is happening at a country level. Having current and reliable data at hand will not only help identify and find solutions to disparities, but also make a case for smarter investments that deliver impact.”
